Printing Services

We offer on-the-spot printing for your dissertation in both color and black and white. Our advanced printers automatically detect color and black-and-white pages, allowing you to print your entire document in one go—eliminating the need for manual sorting. However, keep in mind the following:

  • Headers and footers with colored text or lines will cause all pages to be printed in color.
  • Hyperlinks (such as web or email addresses) may appear in blue or another color. To avoid this, right-click the link and remove the hyperlink.
  • Images and graphics that appear black but were originally saved in color might still be recognized as color. Convert them to monochrome, grayscale, or bitmap before inserting them into your document.

If you prefer to print your dissertation yourself, no problem! We’re still happy to bind it for you.

Dissertation Binding for Taught Master’s Programs – University of Manchester

According to the University of Manchester’s standard guidelines, students must submit two identical copies of their dissertation, either in softback or hardback format. Most students opt for softback binding as it is quicker and more cost-effective.

For channel binding, there is a physical limit of around 300 sheets of standard 80gsm paper. If your dissertation exceeds this limit or is printed on thicker paper, you may need to split it into two volumes. Be sure to check the university’s regulations on multi-volume submissions. If you haven’t printed your dissertation yet, we offer double-sided printing. However, consult your supervisor beforehand, as some prefer single-sided printing.

Hardback binding requires additional processing time and cannot be completed instantly. However, a same-day service may be available.

Some taught master’s programs now allow alternative soft binding options, such as metal or plastic ring binding. These methods take longer than channel binding due to the need for hole punching, and availability is limited due to fewer binding machines.

Undergraduate Dissertation Binding

For undergraduate dissertations across various universities, most types of softback binding are acceptable unless specified otherwise. We offer the following binding options:

  • Comb Binding – Uses plastic rings
  • Wire Binding – Uses metal rings
  • Channel Binding – Features a flat steel spine

Each binding type comes with cover options, typically a clear PVC front with a black card back. If preferred, both the front and back covers can be either card or PVC. These bindings are quick to process and usually completed while you wait.

Both comb and wire binding involve punching holes in the paper and using rings to keep the dissertation together. These options allow the document to lay flat when opened. While they are sometimes referred to as spiral binding, true spiral binding uses a plastic coil. Based on our experience, if your university requests a spiral-bound dissertation, comb or wire binding is typically an acceptable alternative.

Channel binding offers a more book-like appearance, keeping the pages securely in place without allowing the document to lay flat. This method does not require hole punching, making it a quick option. Additionally, gold lettering can be added to the spine in just a few minutes.

Binding Options We Do Not Offer

We do not provide the following types of soft binding:

  • Glue binding (also called thermal, tape, or perfect binding)
  • Surebind or Velobind
  • Spiral or coil binding (consider comb or wire binding instead)

Hardback Binding for Undergraduate and Master’s Dissertations

Some undergraduate courses require hardback binding. While this cannot be completed instantly, a same-day service may be available.

Master’s Dissertation Binding – Manchester Metropolitan University

To our knowledge, there is no universal binding standard for Master’s dissertations at MMU.

For the Business School, softback channel binding with gold lettering on the spine is commonly accepted, a process that takes around 10 minutes.

Hardback binding may be required for certain undergraduate courses, though it takes longer. Same-day service may be available, but we also offer more budget-friendly options with a turnaround time of 3 to 5 working days.

Binding Services for Other Universities

We also print and bind dissertations for students from other universities. To ensure compliance with your institution’s requirements, please provide a copy of the binding guidelines when placing your order.
